Excellent recap Blondie! I too was forced to sit through this yesterday. I agree that next week's article will really hammer the point of obedience above all else. The point I noticed yesterday was the use of the word near to describe the end of this system of things. I really would like a definition of near. Is it weeks, months, a year or two? This decade? And I too have noticed how many elders have found greener pastures for themselves in this dying old system of things. Vacation time from work is not used to auxiliary pioneer, its used for travel or other recreation. Sports cars that clearly are not good field service vehicles are common. Elders' children are busy preparing for college. Simply amazing...

by Big Tex inthe little boy was very excited.
finally it was saturday!
he leaped out of his bed and went to the worn and battered dresser next to his bed to look again at the simple invitation carefully placed on top.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. Its very sad. Is it a true story? a fable? is there a lesson or moral to it? Did it all just go over my head?

Way to go TH, thanks for the update. I agree, the whole statute of limitations has to go. I have tried to find out what the law is in my home state; it is so confusing and has changed over the years that no one can give me a straight answer. Same with clery confidentiality law.

been away from organization for a while now, yet?.
by intellecta ini found this site accidently i guess.
i have been away from the truth for a while now...6 years... yet it always permeates my mind somehow and i fear the events happening in the world, and wonder.... i guess my problem was that i hated going out door to door as a child.. somehow i hated invading other people's privacy and felt wrong somehow, or embarrased, or just plain hated it period.
i think that is the biggest thing that keeps me away from ever returning.. somehow i, in my small mind cannot understand why small children should do such a thing until they are old enough to at least have a say in it.. like an opinion??

welcome intellecta,
Re your concerns about world conditions, keep in mind that for many years, day in and day out, you were told how bad the world is, how its only getting worse and worse. It was a very one-sided thing. Once you start thinking a little, you start to realize all the good things going on in the world. Take child abuse, for example. Its not a new problem at all. Its just that people are finally figuring out that it is ok to talk about it, to help the victims, not blame them, and try to stop the abuser from harming others. Funny how the Bible never really talks about it. Or how the Bible never condemned slavery. etc. etc.
I too am not happy at the prospect of getting old or dieing. Not sure what the answer is.
anyway, glad you are here.

No longer filling my spiritual needs...
by eisenstein ini feel very sad today.
i see my old jw friends almost every day on my way to the subway, they are street witnessing.
i've talked to a couple of them about my doubts, etc.

Hi eisenstein,
I read your post mainly because of the title. I have recently come to the same conclusion: Life as a dub no longer fills my spiritual needs. Of course, this whole concept is foreign to a JW; being a JW has nothing to do with finding spiritual help, it has to do with conformance and obedience to a group.
So, I have no real advice, since I am in a similar situation, but at least we are both searching, instead of just mindlessly attending meetings where the same message is just repeated over and over, waiting for a new system to just fix all of our problems for us.

At least twice recently, I have heard the following: Armageddon is not around the corner anymore, It is right in front of us.

Gerry,
Your account is very sad. While the Watchtower talks coldly about numbers and "loyalty", your personal experience shows the human side of how their policy hurts real people. Keep telling your story, we all need to remember.

Francois,
The ideal the rest of the world admires and wishes they could be just like us.
The world's police force.
Are you serious??? The rest of the world hates us, for the most part. Mainly because the U.S. thinks it is the world's police force. I don't recall anyone ever asking the U.S. to be the world's police force.
Why is there so much talk about politics on a JW discussion board?

Don't underestimate the power of one letter. Someone will read it at Bethel, maybe more than one. The more letters like this they receive, the more time they spend having to read them. Who knows at what point one of these letters will cause someone to wake up, or at least question their beliefs.
Recently I wrote a letter to the Society regarding a pedophile in the congregation. I was disappointed with the response. But after realizing how many people had to read my letter, I felt like maybe it was not such a useless action as I had first thought. I know that 3 circuit overseers and at least 3 or 4 elders read it before it ever got to Patterson. How many letters do they get like mine nowadays? At the very least, it costs them time and money to read or respond, time and money they would rather be using to "promote Kingdom interests".
